My day did not turn out as I'd hoped.

First off, my friend's daughter got sick with some sort of fever involved and our fun brunch and other potential excitement was then canned, hopefully to be revisited at a later Thursday.

I was tired this morning so after her call I set my alarm a bit later and after a couple snoozes the thing shut off and I slept in a bit later than I'd wanted to. Sure was a nice treat to have a seriously LAZY morning though!

After I got up I eventually chatted with Andy and decided to head to the store and get grocery shopping done so we wouldn't have to deal with that on the weekend. I can't believe how fast money disappears though! I did however find a great pair of workout pants that are long and super comfy. And bought diapers. Every thing adds up, and FAST! At least now we have some fresh fruit and hopefully enough meals to make us through the next couple weeks. We'll see.

Once I got back from two stores and got everything all put away I actually did a few chores. Put away some wash and got a batch started to get my new yoga pants washed up for tomorrow. Sewed a button on one of Andy's shirts. You know, super fun stuff :)

Now I'm on to catching up with Design Star. I missed the first episode of the season but was able to catch up with the second and third episodes and will continue watching the season though it seems a bit lame. I really like Kim Myles and her new show Miles of Style. Always interesting to see what they do with the challenges and how they interact with each other as well.

Next up: on to dinner at our favorite little Mexican restaurant. Hooray for free beer/margarita Thursday and friends visiting from IL.

Just in case you care ... I officially joined NaBloPoMo and am shooting for a post a day. We'll see how I do this month and come August, I'll officially try and post every day.

And They Say California is Full of Quacks...

People seem to hate us Californians and our hippy ways, but sometimes our hippy ways produce awesome ideas. From http://alternativefuels.about.com/:

Effective January 1, 2009, every new vehicle sold in California must display a window label that rates its environmental performance in two key areas. Each label will report a score of 1 to 10 (worst to best) concerning said vehicle's contribution to both global warming and smog. It's part of California's efforts to educate the public about the relationship between vehicle emissions and environmental degradation--and maybe give a shot-in-the-arm to the state's push for a 30 percent reduction in tailpipe emissions by 2016. So far, automakers haven't really bristled, but they've shown that they can be easily pushed too far (shades of the ZEV). According to detnews.com, The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers spokesman Charles Territo said, "Consumers today are more educated than ever before." He also noted that similar information is already available on the internet. One place is the Green Vehicle Guide on the Environmental Protection Agency's website.

Personally, I think this is an AWESOME idea. I mean, I know douchebags that don't care about the environment and just want their cars to go fast enough to run down people on bicycles won't give a crap about how they're killing us all. But there ARE some people out there that have never really thought about it and just MIGHT think about it when they're going to purchase a new car. Hopefully this will encourage more people to get hybrids or at least something with better mileage. Plus, I'll be in the market for a new car in the near future, and that will surely help me in my decision.

Also, this makes me completely giddy. Just the THOUGHT that we can get (new) Hummers* off the road brings sunshine into my soul. Of course the fact that they're closing plants which happen to produce HYBRIDS is really rather stupid.

Oh, GM. I really hope you realize that there's a GOOD trend going on and try to adapt to consumer demand instead of throwing temper tantrums, changing laws in the state senate, and digging yourself into a hole like you did when you destroyed all the electric cars and started developing the Hummer. You and your BFF Big Oil may have had our government in your back pockets for quite some time, but with gas prices estimated to be $9.25/gallon by September** we normally apathetic Americans aren't going to allow you to continue business as usual. We might even get so mad that we put the TiVo on pause and write an angry email, or something.

*A friend of mine that works at Carmax said that they have lots and lots full of used Hummers they cannot get rid of. They're no longer taking them in.

Well, I've never been to Malibu, so I'd like to take a bike ride maybe from Venice or Santa Monica to Malibu. Either that or go hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu. Then, maybe do lunch or dinner at the Inn of the Seventh Ray in Malibu. I hear it's pretty good. And they have vegan duck, which is interesting.

Instead, I'll be working. And when the majority of the studio gets to go home at 3:00 for the holiday, I'll be there until much much later.

Yay!

Aside from the fact that I don't have millions of dollars at my disposal to fly to New York or Paris and go shopping, I do get to do anything I want tomorrow! Stephan will be headed to Nana & Papa's and I get the day to myself. I'm hoping to do lunch with a friend and maybe go shopping. I've got something I need to exchange if I can find the reciept. I also need to try and find something else. Will try and make it to the gym as well, we'll see. I'm just happy to have the day to myself really, so I can do anything I want.

MIA, Mostly: Damn That MA Exam

Well, I've read three texts off the theory list, one novel, and 1.9 plays. Sigh. The frickin exam is just less than a month away, and I've got something like 127.1 texts left to go.

Figured I ought to bring the neighborhood up to speed, and clarify that I'm not commenting much right now, mostly because I'm sitting in my office, staring out the window over the pile of books I should be reading, despairing and daydreaming about winning the lottery and just getting to buy my damned degree with an endowment. I am reading folks, though, so thanks very much for the company.

Hatin’

Crib recall. Stephan slept great the first night but has been having a hard time getting to sleep the past few nights. The worst is knowing we’ll go through this all over again when we finally get a new crib. I’m also annoyed that I haven’t gotten the packet to send the stuff back to the company. WTH are they waiting for?

My headache. Think It just might be time for a visit to the chiropractor.

How money disappears faster than it appears.

Workouts with my friend. No pain, no gain. I’m not hurting too much, but just enough to know I’m more effective when we work out together! Who doesn’t love a pal at the gym?

That our AC is still cranking away. It’s been stinking hot.
