I had a pretty awesome day today. Nathan and I woke up and went to church. He ran into preschool, excited to play with the kids. This was awesome, because normally he's a little upset about leaving me. Not today!
After church we normally go to Mike's parent's house for lunch but they had errands to run. They promised to call us later and go out on the boat if they could get it in the slip. Sweet. So, Nathan and I decided to go to the park till lunch time. I'll make this rant small, but I was the ONLY adult at the park filled with 6 and 7 year olds. Really? Is that the age we should be allowing our kids to go out alone to the park? I remember playing outside by myself at that age, but not going to the park. Some of them had their younger 4 and 5 year old siblings with them, but no parents. I was a little shocked but I was even more shocked when some of the girls turned on the other ones and started throwing sand in their face. Being the ONLY adult, I had to break up the fight and tell the bullies to go home. Then I grabbed my kid and we left to go have lunch at home. Seriously, where were the friggin parents??? Ugh.
We went home and started lunch. I made an awesome chicken skillet deal. It was enough to feed 10 people and with just Nathan and I at home I've got lunch for the week sitting in my fridge. Side note: if you haven't checked out Homemade Gourmet products...do so it will change the way you cook! LOVE their stuff. So, lunch was easy and yummy. Then it was time to get Nathan down for a nap. With all the running around he did, it was easy. My nap came easily too and before we knew it we'd slept for an hour and a half. SWEET!
We woke up and it was beautiful outside. An awesome 75 degrees or so! So, I decided today was the day I took my legs out for some much needed sunshine. I believe that I haven't really tried to tan my legs in about 5 years. I hate my legs and so I rarely let them out of pants to see the sun. The result has been pale, pasty, gross legs, I hate even more than I did. That's not really fair to my legs...so we decided to get along for the day.
Nathan and I layed out in the sun. He played soccer and watered plants and himself (mostly himself) and I got some needed vitamin D.
Then we got a call from the in-laws...time for boating! Nathan was stoked because he has been wanting to go fishing for a while. We got ready as quick as we could and hopped in the car to the boat launch. Mike's parents were already out on the boat and came to get us from the slip.
We had a blast! Nathan and grandma used Nathan's fishing rod together while grandpa worked hard to catch "the big one".
Finally, Grandpa caught something on his line and pulled it in. It was a very large Northern Pike! Nathan was so excited to see the fish. He got to touch it while Mike's dad worked hard to get it off the hook. We catch and release the fish we catch...no eating it. Unless we're camping and need food but that's different. Nathan wanted to eat it...but he's four and very distructive. Grandpa explained that if we let it go, we can catch it again when it's bigger or catch the babies it makes. If I were a fish...it would only take once for me to get the hint. Don't eat the easy food. It's death! However, I believe fish have very small brains so maybe I wouldn't do anything like that at all and I'd just get caught 500 times too.
After catching the fish we were ready to turn back and go home. It was a very busy day and we still had dinner to eat! Nate and I came back home and had a very good night. So good, that I didn't even realized I'd let him stay up until 9:30pm again! He did fall fast asleep without any argument so that's good. Hopefully he'll sleep in a little so I can get up and get dressed before he wakes up. Things always run smoother when that happens. :)
Woot! Here's to a great weekend. I can't wait till Mike gets home. I don't know what it is about this particular trip but it has felt like weeks instead of days! I miss him!
