I was so overwhelmed with everything I learned at training that I sort of overwhelmed everyone else today. The Vice President of Operations reminded me that I needed to soak it all in and decide how it would be best applied. He was right. I put together a presentation and showed my boss. He was alright with what I had to say. He reminded me not to get too frustrated with everyone if they don't listen because everyone is super busy right now. I understand what he's saying. We just started a second shift less than a month ago and it's already on 10 hour days. We're just growing so fast! I'm lucky to be part of the ride and I hope that I can put my new training to work.
Mike and I aren't seeing much of each other these days. If I'm not working he is and it's getting a little old. He's super stressed and so I'm trying not to make a big deal about it all. I know eventually we'll get back on track and on the same schedule. It's hard to be parents and grow careers at the same time while still nurishing our own relationships. I'm just doing whatever I can to not end up like my parents. They live two seperate lives side by side. Normally, it's really bitter. I have lots of tendencies like my mother, not all of them are so wonderful. I need to keep them in check during times like these.
Tomorrow I'm out of the office again. I'm going to a corporation in Madison, WI. They're another home based distribution business. I'm interested in what I'll see there. There is always something to take away when you visit another business. Hopefully one day we'll be able to show off our growth and abilities.
La Crosse Airport, 9:00 a.m.
I’m so excited about this trip I can barely contain myself. This is probably why I’m sitting here two hours before my flight even leaves. I can’t connect to the internet right now because you have to pay for such things in an airport these days. Perhaps I will once I get to Minneapolis. It’s a lot larger. As for this one, it’s small and lucky to have a runway.
I was up at 4:30 this morning from a nightmare. I was driving to the airport and was in a car accident and I can just remember being sideways and sliding through an intersection where I was hit by a semi. It was very scary; enough to wake me from my sleep and start getting ready 3 hours before I needed to leave the house. The dream almost came true as I was driving to the airport this morning. The black ice on the road was so bad. I slid sideways and finally got control right before I went through in intersection. What was coming to my left you might ask? A semi of course. No, not the best way to start a morning.
However, the three hours of quiet before Nathan awoke gave me a chance to a really great job on my make-up. At least I feel decent looking today. That normally helps the day. Nothing like a bad hair day and a bad morning to start the Monday.
The butterflies in my stomach are starting to ease. I know they’ll pick up once my flight gets into Durham, NC. I’ll need to find a shuttle to get me to my hotel, unpack, and start a week of training and exploring. I do hope that I’m able to take my off time to explore the city. I’ve never been to Durham but I hear it’s nice. One thing for sure, it will be nice to get out of the 20 degree Minnesota weather. I’ve not acclimated since I got back from California last week. Hopefully things are a lot better once I get back. Supposedly spring is going to start soon. It’s been such a long winter, I’m not holding my breath.
I wonder what the people will be like at training. Normally people who go through this training are Plant Operations Management or Vice Presidents of Operations. Not Human Resource Administrative Assistants/ Lean Coordinators. I’m very lucky to be going and I know that I can do the job as long as I have the backing from supervisors. I just need to get the training to get the backing. I almost feel as if I’m starting backwards. Perhaps once training is over I can start working on a business degree. Heck, if work will pay for it and it makes my job more profitable for both me and the company it’s worth it!
