I had a pretty awesome day today. Nathan and I woke up and went to church. He ran into preschool, excited to play with the kids. This was awesome, because normally he's a little upset about leaving me. Not today!
After church we normally go to Mike's parent's house for lunch but they had errands to run. They promised to call us later and go out on the boat if they could get it in the slip. Sweet. So, Nathan and I decided to go to the park till lunch time. I'll make this rant small, but I was the ONLY adult at the park filled with 6 and 7 year olds. Really? Is that the age we should be allowing our kids to go out alone to the park? I remember playing outside by myself at that age, but not going to the park. Some of them had their younger 4 and 5 year old siblings with them, but no parents. I was a little shocked but I was even more shocked when some of the girls turned on the other ones and started throwing sand in their face. Being the ONLY adult, I had to break up the fight and tell the bullies to go home. Then I grabbed my kid and we left to go have lunch at home. Seriously, where were the friggin parents??? Ugh.
We went home and started lunch. I made an awesome chicken skillet deal. It was enough to feed 10 people and with just Nathan and I at home I've got lunch for the week sitting in my fridge. Side note: if you haven't checked out Homemade Gourmet products...do so it will change the way you cook! LOVE their stuff. So, lunch was easy and yummy. Then it was time to get Nathan down for a nap. With all the running around he did, it was easy. My nap came easily too and before we knew it we'd slept for an hour and a half. SWEET!
We woke up and it was beautiful outside. An awesome 75 degrees or so! So, I decided today was the day I took my legs out for some much needed sunshine. I believe that I haven't really tried to tan my legs in about 5 years. I hate my legs and so I rarely let them out of pants to see the sun. The result has been pale, pasty, gross legs, I hate even more than I did. That's not really fair to my legs...so we decided to get along for the day.
Nathan and I layed out in the sun. He played soccer and watered plants and himself (mostly himself) and I got some needed vitamin D.
Then we got a call from the in-laws...time for boating! Nathan was stoked because he has been wanting to go fishing for a while. We got ready as quick as we could and hopped in the car to the boat launch. Mike's parents were already out on the boat and came to get us from the slip.
We had a blast! Nathan and grandma used Nathan's fishing rod together while grandpa worked hard to catch "the big one".
Finally, Grandpa caught something on his line and pulled it in. It was a very large Northern Pike! Nathan was so excited to see the fish. He got to touch it while Mike's dad worked hard to get it off the hook. We catch and release the fish we catch...no eating it. Unless we're camping and need food but that's different. Nathan wanted to eat it...but he's four and very distructive. Grandpa explained that if we let it go, we can catch it again when it's bigger or catch the babies it makes. If I were a fish...it would only take once for me to get the hint. Don't eat the easy food. It's death! However, I believe fish have very small brains so maybe I wouldn't do anything like that at all and I'd just get caught 500 times too.
After catching the fish we were ready to turn back and go home. It was a very busy day and we still had dinner to eat! Nate and I came back home and had a very good night. So good, that I didn't even realized I'd let him stay up until 9:30pm again! He did fall fast asleep without any argument so that's good. Hopefully he'll sleep in a little so I can get up and get dressed before he wakes up. Things always run smoother when that happens. :)
Woot! Here's to a great weekend. I can't wait till Mike gets home. I don't know what it is about this particular trip but it has felt like weeks instead of days! I miss him!
It has been a nice weekend so far. Today started early since Nathan has decided that 5am is a great time to start the day…even on Saturday. He still doesn’t quite understand the difference between weekend and weekdays so he gets us up very early to watch cartoons and have breakfast. I’ve been trying to use the darker mornings as an excuse “Nathan, the sun isn’t up yet…we can’t wake up until the sun comes up!” However, this morning he wasn’t interested in going back to bed. He was hungry. (I stayed up too late watching news and stuff on the debate. I should have just gone back to bed. I know who I'm voting for. I don't need to watch them nit pick and twist each others words around for a few hours. Makes me not want to vote at all, which isn't an option.)
So, we got up early. Mike’s mom called about 7am to let me know they’d be around at 11 to pick Nate up for an “adventure”. I’d asked them to watch Nate since Mike had to work and I had a lia sophia party to do. Deciding to pick him up early was good news for me because I had a lot to do before the party started.
They ended up taking him to House On The Rock, a Frank Lloyd Wright house, which is pretty awesome. He had an amazing day with them and came home tuckered out and sleeping.
I had a great party with some awesome gals. I love the people I get to meet and the fun I have at these parties. This group of women are young and in a sorority together. They’re pretty much each having a party. It’s a lot of fun to see them again and again and I’ve been spicing up my presentation so it’s a little different each time. It has been fun. I also get great ideas of what items I should put in my kit next. I realized this time my lack of earrings is causing a lack of sales so I’ve ordered myself some new ones for next party. 7 new pairs, I’m so excited! I love my discount.
Anyways, it was a great party and when I got home Mike was finally back from work. He had slept at work last night actually. It’s the “factory sale” and all the boats were outside the building. Well, instead of putting all 200 of them back in the warehouse, someone needed to watch them all night. So, he did. It’s getting cold and the nats are really bad so he didn’t have a great night. After that with 60 hours of work this week, he was beat. He was sleeping on the couch when I got home. I got him awake and we went out to dinner. It was fun and good to see him. 60 hours does not lend to a lot of home time…I missed him.
We came home and watched a movie together. Nathan was back later than expected. By the time he got home we were ready for bed! Mike’s passed out, Nathan is passed out, and I was in need of a little computer time to myself. So here I am.
I’m looking forward to my Jr High kids tomorrow at church. I’m praying for a better day than last week. I just need to remember what age I’m dealing with and let it flow off my back. Duck in water, as they say. After church its laundry time and hopefully I can work on some school work. Mike plans on watching football all day and I’m sure Nathan will be happy to play with his toys and watch cartoons in his room. Hopefully it ends up being that peaceful!
Sounds like a lot going on but it’s all pretty boring family stuff right now. J Fine with me.
I had a dream about Funfetti cupcakes a few nights ago and I finally bought the stuff to make them.
They're in the oven...yummmm! So excited!
Much better than my dream last night which woke me up bawling. I was attending Nathan's funeral. Weird dream, not true, but one of those stick with you all day kind of dreams. Yikes!
Mike is paining the pergola, I'm cleaning and baking, Nathan is taking a nap. Nice end to a peaceful weekend.
